Meet Rijmpiet

Rijmpiet introduces himself
Hello, I'm Rijmpiet, the Saint's poet on call,
I write rhyming poems for one and for all.
Is your head as empty as a chimney in May?
Don't worry, I'll find all the right words to say!
Just tell me their hobbies, a habit or two,
and I'll write them a poem that's funny and true.
So fill in the form, it won't take you long,
and leave all the rhyming to me and my song!

What's the tradition?

On 5 December, Dutch families, friends and colleagues swap gifts "from Saint Nicholas". Each gift comes with a rhyming poem that gently teases the person who gets it, about their habits, hobbies or funny moments from this year. They read it out loud before unwrapping, and the laughs are half the fun. The poem is signed by Saint Nicholas and Piet, not by you.

Examples

This is how your poem could sound. Sweet, teasing or very teasing: you choose.

FriendTeasing ๐Ÿ˜

For Sarah, who cycles in every weather

Saint Nicholas opened his big book todayand read about Sarah, who moved here in May.She cycles to work through the wind and the rain, and swears every morning she'll switch to the train. She orders "een koffie" with confident flair, then flees into English the moment they stare. Her toast gets its hagelslag, true Dutch routine, the sprinkliest expat that Piet's ever seen.So Sarah, unwrap it and try it out soon:a raincoat for cycling through every monsoon!Saint Nicholas and Piet

ChildSweet ๐Ÿ˜Š

For Noah (6), who loves dinosaurs

Saint Nicholas rode on his horse through the nightand peeked in at Noah, tucked up nice and tight. His room is a jungle of dinosaurs green, the biggest T. rex that Piet's ever seen! He's learning to read and he counts up to ten, then starts from the top and he counts it again. So Noah, be brave and look into your shoe:a dinosaur egg that's been waiting for you!Saint Nicholas and Piet

PartnerTeasing ๐Ÿ˜

For Tom, who is always "nearly ready"

Saint Nicholas watched from the roof of your flat, while Piet kept the notes and the kettle and that.Tom shouts "Just a minute!" whenever you wait, then irons a shirt while you're already late. His keys are in pockets of coats he won't wear, his phone's in the fridge and his wallet'sโ€ฆ somewhere. So here is a key ring that beeps when you clap:no more "Where are my keys?" and no time for a nap!Saint Nicholas and Piet

ColleagueVery teasing ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

For Priya, queen of the team chat

Saint Nicholas logged on to see what you do,and Piet read your messages, all ninety-two.Each meeting begins with "Can you hear me? Hello?"then you share the wrong screen: a beach photo show. The report will be finished "by end of the day",but whose day, dear Priya? Not ours, by the way!So here's a small gift for your desk, nice and neat:a timer, so deadlines are finally met!Saint Nicholas and Piet

Frequently asked questions

How does the early-bird discount work?

Order your poem by 15 November and you get 25% off every single poem, plus the printable version for free. The 5-poem pack is already cheaper, so the discount doesn't apply on top of it. You choose when you want to receive the poem, so late November is fine too.

How do I order a 5-poem pack?

Fill in the form for each person and choose "Part of a 5-poem pack" under "Your order". Use the same name all five times. After each form you pay one fifth of the pack price (โ‚ฌ5 short, โ‚ฌ7.50 long). Rush costs โ‚ฌ2.50 extra per poem.

How quickly will I get my poem?

Within 24 hours of payment. With rush, within 12 hours.

What if I don't like the poem?

You can ask for one change for free. Just tell us what should be different.

How much should I tell you?

The more details, the funnier the poem. Think of hobbies, work, habits and funny moments from this year.

Is the poem translated from Dutch?

No. Every English poem is written in English from the start, so it rhymes properly and sounds natural.

Can you write one for a child?

Of course! Choose "Child" as the age and "Sweet" as the tone, and the poem will be child-friendly.

Your answers are only used to write your poem. After 5 December we delete your answers and the poem. We only keep the payment details, because the law requires it. Read more in the privacy statement.
